About Our Group

Here's a littl insight ,so you can get to know a little about FYS 'Team Derek'.

I am Rya Hooks from Atlanta, Georgia, and current freshman at High Point University with a major in Psychology as well as a minor in Sociology and Spanish. My love for High Point flourished after my first campus visit, and I knew it was home. I allow my imagantion to run free when it comes to my interest in photography and touring new places around my home town. College so far has given me the oppurtunity to share a space with new friends which has been a big transition for me as I am the only child. Over the years I have developed a love for a children, and want to purse a career in clinical psychology at a children's hospital where I can touch the lives of the youth and their families.

The diversity of my group only begins with me, because I have met some extraordinary students through my First Year Seminar (FYS) class.

There is Derek Lucas from Worcester, Massachusetts who is a Business Adminastrations major with intentions of pursing his career goals working on Wall Street in the future . Derek currently lives in Wanek at High Point University and declared as an Early Decision student after visiting the extraordinary campus. His favorite food is the spicy Chickfila sandwich and if he had any superpower it would be flying so he could venture freely to wherever his imagaition will take him.

Also there is Rebecca Finch, a event management major with a minor in strategic communication, from Durham, North Carolina. Rebecca wants to live life having fun with hopes go one day planning music festivals across the country for thousands to enjoy. After touring High Point University she fell in love with the campus and the programs directed towards her major, and now she calls University Center her new home at HPU. If she had one superpower it would be invisibility, so she could trick her mom.

Meet Danielle Glendenning who is also an event management major with a minor in sales from Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Danielle hopes to take on the position of being the CEO of major company or a job in pharamsolical sales. The fast paste of up north had Miss Glendenning falling in love with the small down south community of High Point University; where she now calls Wanek at HPU home. Being the oldest of two she would want her superpower to be invisibility, and her favorite foods are tacos, pizza, and cake.

Last but not least from Long Island, New York Gabriela Fatscher. She chose High Point University due to the positive teachers and small class sizes; which are values that lead to her continuing her education as an Exercise Science major with a minor in Spanish at HPU. Prior to recieving her degree Gabriela wants to become an occupational therapist. Her one superpower of choice is invisibility, and she loves a good steak!

Team 'Derek' is confident, unique, and ready to take on their studies at High Point University and the careers to follow!
