The KKK was led by their President Bob Johns as the state of North Carolina turned into Klansville USA under his rule. John was the reason the Klan organization gained 10,000 members under his leadership. The white middle class was in fear of losing their jobs to blacks which sparked most whites involvement with the KKK to protect their jobs being “taken”. Bob Johns would never actually admit to being a racist. In 1871 the federal government put an end to the Klan, but it resparked shortly after The Birth of Nation film in the 1920s. John’s father was an active member of the KKK in the 1920s, so some can say that he followed after his father by being a member of the organization himself. In 1955 the Klan men and women gathered in Washington to march for what they believed in. Even Johns wife was influential within the Klan group as she strongly fought to keep African Americans out of her children's school and insure education remained segregated During this time period North Carolina became a lot more progressive. The leader of the Klan, Bob John, was sentenced to a year in federal prison and the organization was shameful to be apart of after/during his imprisonment. The United Klans of America was no more and their goals were never completed.
