In the case of Brown vs. Board of Education the state law that mandates school under equal protection clause stating “separate but equal” was challenged by Brown. The 14th amendment allowed citizenship to African Americans under federal law. After Linda Brown was denied her rights to attend school she decided to fight for her earned federal rights. Brown argued the both blacks and whites should receive the resources as white students in regard to education. Many were disparately impacted by the obvious mistreatment of African American families within the school system. Brown also used the Bible to support their side of the case stating that blacks were victims of the de facto punishment; which was not specifically backed up by law yet is factual. The side of Brown stood for integration, so African American students would not fall behind due to lack of resources and inexperienced teachers.

The Board of Education was not going into the case without a valid argument against Brown. Integration would cause schools to lose money and break tradition of separate but equal. Board also mentioned the Bible to justify that God wanted the people to be segregated. Being separated makes people happy and changing that would cause a disruption of the established peace. Blacks would be distraction if they were in school with whites which leads to a slippery slope of events. Many citizens were in favor of state laws separate but equal. The court case reached a verdict and Board’s argument was strong enough to win against Brown.
